Recycling of Beverage Packages

Returning beverage bottles for reuse has been a common practice in Finland since the early 20th century. The current rate of return of glass bottles for beer and soft drinks is 98%. Returning and reusing bottles saves on raw materials, keeps emissions down in the packaging industry, and reduces both littering and the amounts of packaging waste ending up in landfills.
