Imports of ozone-depleting substances to Finland

Ozone-depleting substances have never been manufactured in Finland. The quantities imported have fallen to less than a tenth of their levels in 1990. If these imports are multiplied by the respective ozone-depleting potentials (ODP) of the chemicals concerned, then the recent reduction in Finland’s contribution to ozone depletion is even greater, since HCFCs have a much lower ODP than the CFCs they have replaced. Imports of ozone-depleting substances to Finland in 1990 corresponded to a level of about 2,600 ODP-tonnes; and by 2002 this figure had fallen to less than 20 ODP-tonnes.

Small quantities of ozone-depleting substances are still imported into Finland for use in laboratories, but their most significant application is the use of HCFCs in the maintenance of refrigeration equipment.

CFCs, 1,1,1-trichloroeathane, halons, HCFCs, carbon tetrachloride, methylbromide

Imports of ozone-depleting substances to Finland have further decreased since 2002.
