Kainuu Regional Environment Centre
The Kainuu Regional Environment Centre, in collaboration with the inhabitants and administrative authorities of the region, promotes the well-being of the cultural and natural environment through research, administrative regulations and concrete measures and contributes to the general development of the region of Kainuu. It is also responsible for implementing national enviromental policy in its region. The Centre is supervised by the Ministry of Environment and also partly by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
The Centre bases its activities on the principle of sustainable development. This principle holds that the present generation has no right to diminish the prerequisites of biodiversity or the vital conditions of future generations life.
