Nature, recreation and tourism

Time and space to relax. Photo: Tapio Heikkilä

Traditional free rights of access to Finland’s extensive natural areas means that there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy recreational activities in natural surroundings all around the country. In Finland and the other Nordic Countries, the age-old rights known as everyman’s right grant every-one an exceptionally wide right to roam and take advantage of nature’s bounty, even on private land.

The website run by Metsähallitus Natural Heritage Services contains plenty of information on opportunities and facilities for hiking and other outdoor pursuits in Finland’s many national parks, wilderness areas, and national hiking areas.

More information about nature, nature conservation and the state of the environment in Finland is available on other pages of this website.
